Gros Piton Hike
Enjoy a breathtaking hike to the summit of the Gros Piton. Most people say the idea of the view from the top is what kept them going on this exhausting but exhilarating climb of Gros Piton, one of St Lucia's iconic landmarks! The view and satisfaction of making it to the top did not disappoint them although the muscles ached the next day as much from the descent as the ascent! The first half of the trail involves climbing over large rocks as the trail gradually evens in a gentle slope where the Caribbean Sea and the village of Choiseul can be seen to the south.
The second half of the trail involves a steep ascent to the Gros Piton summit and is intended for the more adventurous hiker. The climb is approximately 4-4.5 hours round trip. View in the distance; St Vincent, Soufriere and environs. When you make it to the top, which is 2,619 feet above sea level, you have climbed one of St Lucia’s national landmarks! Climbing Gros Piton is a strenuous challenge and should be undertaken only by very fit and experience hikers. You may find that the steep decent will be especially hard on your knees; take it slow and be careful along the way.
